Dhaulagiri Region Trekking


Located in the northwestern part of the Myagdi district, this massive mountain peak scaling 8167 meters is one beautiful mountain peak in Nepal. Commonly known as Dhaulagiri, the name is derived from two words where "Dhawala" translates to white and "Giri" to the peak. It was first summited by Kurt Diemberger (Austria), Peter Diener (Germany), Ernst Forrer and Albin Schelbert (both Switzerland), Nawang Dorje and Nima Dorje (both Nepal/Sherpa) on 13 May 1960.


Trekking around the Dhaulagiri region is still not so popular due to its difficulty and lack of proper infrastructure for proper accommodation facilities. However, camping treks are popular in the region, as the facilities accommodation are unavailable during some days of the total duration of the trek. Whereas the lower regions provide locally sourced food products and community homestays as well as some lodges and tea houses.


The mountain has a great spiritual significance among the local people who regards the peak as a living source of energy, thus people worship this mountain. The appearance of this mountain with the Shiva Linga is the main reason for being regarded as holy, However, climbing this mountain has been permitted and anyone can conquer it.
