Dhaulagiri Sanctuary Trekking Itinerary:
Day 1: Kathmandu to Beni by Bus
Your adventure begins with a long but scenic bus ride to Beni, a bustling town where the river meets the road. You’ll pass through lively towns and terraced rice fields, with the Annapurna Range teasing you from afar.
Day 2: Jeep Ride to Sungurthala (With Setini Waterfall Hike)
Swap the bus for a 4x4 Jeep and follow the Raghuganga River upstream, meandering through green lush forests and villages like Dagnam, and Chimkhola,
Along the way, take a refreshing hike to the Setini Waterfall—an insider's secret that most trekkers miss. Afterward, settle in for the night in this peaceful mountain cabin, soaking in the quiet atmosphere.
Day 3: Trek to Dhaulagiri Sanctuary (Overnight Camping)
Today, you'll head into the wild as the trek ascends through stone stone-stepped trail through the green forest with the constant rumbling sound of the Raghuganga River.
The trail is quite thrilling and scary at the same time, where one needs to cross a few near-vertical alpine meadows before reaching the Dhaulagiri Glacier.
You'll camp at an altitude of 4,050 meters on bowl-shaped alpine meadows—an experience that offers isolation and grandeur, with the towering Dhaulagiri mountain and icefall providing a dramatic backdrop.
Day 4: Return to Sungurthala
After an awe-inspiring morning by the Dhaulagiri Icefall, trek back down to Sungurthala. Descending is easier, giving you more time to soak in the views and reconnect with the people you met on the way up. One can spend a couple of days exploring nearby glacial lakes.
Day 5: Honey Hunting in Duwadi
Drive to the isolated village of Duwadi to witness the incredible spectacle of Himalayan mad honey hunting. This ancient practice is carried out by local hunters who risk their lives to gather honey from perilous cliffs.
The honey, known for its medicinal and mildly hallucinogenic properties, is a prized cultural heritage of the local people. It’s an adrenaline-packed experience that you won’t find anywhere else in the world.
Day 6: Drive to Darmija Hot Springs
After the intensity of honey hunting, head to Darmija village for some well-deserved relaxation. The natural hot springs here are said to heal everything from sore muscles to skin ailments, making it the perfect post-trek reward. You’ll soak in the warm waters, surrounded by nature—an idyllic end to your rugged journey.
Day 7: Drive to Pokhara
