A country where thank you and sorry is not a necessity. A land where the number of Gods and Goddesses is larger than the actual population itself. It is a land where it seems like everything is in chaos but is in total order. Diversity has been a major identity for this land whether it is cultural or natural. The lifestyle of the people is so fascinating that whenever a foreigner visits this country they are bound to be amazed.

The capital city of this small country Kathmandu is famous for its unique reason. Placed in a rather unique geographical location it has been one of the most important cities in Nepal. Since ancient times this place has been one important place as per many aspects of peoples daily life. The art and architecture of the medieval period are still majestic in spite of major technological advancements.

The monuments that were built in ancient times co-exist with the concrete jungle that we the people of this era have built. Known as the city of temples, the city is trying t rise from the ruins of the devastating earthquake of 2015. Thousands of lives were lost, and hundreds of buildings went down. Despite tragedies, the city is trying to keep its authenticity as much as possible.

Kathmandu has been one important place for people who want to pursue studies and careers. So the flow of people coming to this city is unstoppable. Stopping the people in search of prosperity isn’t the correct way for preserving the ancient glory of the city, rather the city is trying to preserve the glory by combining the ancient and the modern way of life.

Concrete buildings are being built in order to accommodate all the seekers of prosperity so that the opportunities can be affordable. The ancient culture of “Atithi Debo Vaba” which literally translate to “ Guests are Gods” might not be the same as it was in the ancient ages but that similar attitude can be seen throughout the city.

People from any ethnic, economic, cultural, or geographical background are able to experience the modern glory of this city. The human craving for ease in life has been one particular aspect that has changed the way that this city appears today. The narrow streets in between the concretized jungle might seem like you will get lost in here.

But one thing people can use as a guide to the inner settlements is the cables on the side of the streets. The electric poles seem to be one of the strongest things because it holds the heavy weight of different types of cables. The cables seem to be tangled but the situation is something else. Electricity, internet, and telecom cables are mostly what these poles are holding.

This tangled heap of cables might be disturbing to look at but this is one aspect that has helped the people of this city to live in this kind of entanglement. This is a precious resource that makes the businesses able to operate either it is small scale or a large scale. These tangled cables on the side of a narrow street have made the life of the people the way it is today. Not everybody can buy a piece of land and construct a luxurious mansion but they are able to find accommodation by any means.

Either it can be a well-furnished apartment in a skyscraper or it can be a single room shared between friends. The inflow of people from all over the country has made the people who own their own houses in the city to be able to turn their liability into an asset. The rise in population has made the economic activities rise whether it is service or commerce.

Well, there are a lot of consequences that are considered as bad or negative because of the overpopulation but on the bright side, the city is always welcoming guests. The temperature might have risen up, the water might be on the verge of scarcity. the air might be quite dangerous to breathe, the roads might be crowded or the food that we eat might be pesticide influenced; despite all these complications the people seem to be busy doing whatever they are doing .

You will see how one house is supporting another house as they are built next to one another without having empty spaces in between them. You will see how the ancient and modern buildings seem to be in harmony with each other. For a person who comes from a well-organized city, it might seem like it's chaos but for us, it’s just an entanglement.

Take the roads, for example, the number of working traffic lights are in minuscule. People seem to drive where they want. The number of traffic policies has gone up recently. The quality of the road infrastructure is questionable. With all of these inconveniences, the people don’t seem to be bothered in a major way. Rather the people seem t be enjoying the entanglement.

Once you observe the streets you will witness the way people have evolved in the context of using the road. You will see vehicles, people, and animals using this facility in near-total harmony. The people seem to be driving in all directions coming from all directions but don’t seem to be bothered by anything that’s going on.

People's road skills seem to have reached another level where vehicles rarely collide with one another amidst all this chaos. It is not that we don’t have accidents in our streets, the point is the number of accidents compared to organized cities is way too lower. This tangled way of life seems to have made the people seek any alternative without complaining about the situation.

People are debating whether the ancient or the modern way of life is better, but what we must acknowledge is a simple fact. The way of life is evolving day by day and we must try to be as contemporary as possible. Even though the city is tangled or in chaos, there is still a certain level of cooperation and peace among the people and that is the major uniqueness of this city.
