Manaslu Trek



Manaslu Circuit trek is one of many important trekking routes in Nepal. This route lies in the Manaslu Conservation Area which was established in 1998.This trek is named after the eighth highest peak in the world Mt.Manaslu (8163m). The name Manaslu means the “Mountain of the spirits” as “Manas” in Sanskrit means soul. It is also known as Kutang in the local dialect. The region was opened for trekking since 1991. The route starts following the bank of Budhigandaki River valley. The trails in this region are literally breathtaking .The settlements in this region are mainly of the Tibetan origins and Himalayan Buddhism is widely practiced among the people. There are several monasteries and gompas in this region where monks and nuns reside. This trekking route is currently listed under “ Restricted Area” and requires special authorization from the Government of Nepal . The permit fee for trekking in this region is comparatively high which approximately 70 USD per week is. The terrain in this quite unstable in several places therefore solo trekking is not permitted. A guide or a porter who has sufficient knowledge of the region is a must. Other major mountain peaks in this region are Ngadi Chuli (7871m) Himalchuli (7893m) Shringi(7817m).Langpo(6668m)and Saula (6235m). The snow line in this region is normally above 5000m. The region receives snowfall mostly from December to January. The vegetation in this region differs with the elevation of the land. Rhododendrons and Pines are among the major species . This region serves as sanctuary for some of highly endangered species which includes Snow Leopard and Red Pandas. Other animals like Lynx, Himalayan Black Bear ,Himalayan Musk Deer , Grey wolf and other claim this region home. The region houses some of the birds like Golden Eagle, several types of Vultures and Pheasants . Other faunas including some reptiles and butterflies are also found in this region.





The Manaslu region comprises of several trekking routes which include the Tsum valley trek, which is the extended version of Manslu circuit trek. Even with all of the highlights this trek is less busy route for trekkers. The numbers have risen in recent years as availability of accommodation, food and other facilities has improved. If you are looking for unusual experiences on a sublime territory, the Manaslu is for you.
You will enjoy a breathtaking view of the imposing Himalayas that stretch across the horizons as you browse your trekking routes. You will also encounter cultural diversity and natural landscapes, with glacial lakes of dreams, flora and fauna.
